If you've always thought of yourself as a caring, loving person and felt that alternative health care of some sort would be your niche, you might consider becoming a Rolfer. This field will allow you to help people reach their full physical potential. Though it takes a lot of training, you'll find yourself ready to help anyone when you begin your career.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Inquire at the Rolf Institute of Structural Integration in Boulder, Colorado, which is the official school of rolfing. They blend academic rigor with experiential learning so there is a maximum of personal growth. It is the school's intention to keep classes small in order to give the fullest individual attention. A flexible timetable is part of the program that focuses on students' diverse needs.
Step2
Expect to have a lot of training. The Rolf Institute of Structural Integration demands that students complete over 600 instructional hours in order to earn certification as a Rolfer.
Step3
Begin the first of three units of study that are offered. There are two options for Unit I. You can choose Foundations of Rolfing Structural Integration (FORSI) if you have no previous bodywork experience or Advanced Foundations of Rolfing Structural Integration (AFORSI) if you already have training in massage or bodywork.
Step4
Take three months to work on understanding and using the skills that you acquired if you had no previous training in massage or other bodywork. Previously trained therapists can move on to the next eight week course.
Step5
Begin the second unit of training. Participants learn to find simple structural patterns in the relationship to gravity and to obtain a working knowledge of the basics of the theories and principles of Rolfing as well as learn the Rolf Movements.
Step6
Practice, practice, practice. Another required three month practice period is then part of the program so that the student can both assimilate and integrate the learned skills.
Step7
Attend the final unit, which is actual clinical practice. During this time you will practice on clients under the strict supervision of an instructor. Once this eight week intensive program if complete, you will receive certification as a Rolfer.
