How to Visit Greenfield Village

Greenfield Village, located in Dearborn, Michigan, is a part of the Henry Ford, America's Greatest History Attraction. Here guests will find the largest outdoor museum in the world of its kind. Stroll through streets lined with the homes of famous Americans like Thomas Edison, Noah Webster and the Wright Brothers. Tour Menlo Park Laboratory, ride a historic carousel and visit the Firestone Farm all in one relaxing day.

      Enter the gate for Greenfield Village. It is a part of a larger complex but easy to find as it has a large entry way at the end of the main lawn area.

      Look for the signs for the train. The train ride takes you around the entire village. You can get off at stops along the way or continue back to where you started. The train ride is a great way to get an overall picture of the village before you begin your walking tour.

      Get off the train and go down the lane just to the left to visit the Firestone Farm. This is a working farm that was the home of Henry Firestone. This is a great way to begin your walking tour.

      Walk back down the lane after visiting the farm and take the main road. Just to the right is the home of Henry Ford. Along this route you will also see the village school, the Henry Ford Motor Company and the Wright Brothers workshop and home.

      Continue around the gazebo and custard shop until you come to the Menlo Park Laboratory. Down this street you will see the Sarah Johnson Boarding house where Menlo Park employees used to live.

      Cross the covered bridge and tour the Susquehanna Plantation, a windmill and the Daggett House, another working farm in the village. This road will also take you past a working blacksmith, a Cotswold cottage and tea garden and the Noah Webster home.

      Finish the day by taking a ride on a paddle wheel boat, Model-T cars or a meal from the Taste of History Restaurant. Don't forget to stop and enjoy the village green and the beautiful Martha-Mary Chapel as you go.

  • Greenfield Village is open year road for a variety of activities. In the fall enjoy harvest days, Halloween Nights and special dinners at the Eagle Tavern. Winter brings sleigh rides, holiday music and a chance to see Christmas the way it used to be.
