How to Choose a VBAC

A VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) is a choice that many women, who have previously delivered by cesarean, consider for their next birth. This is an especially common choice for women who have had successful vaginal births in the past. However, there are risks associated with this procedure and there are a few important things to consider before determining if a VBAC is right for you.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Ask your doctor if it is a viable option. Some doctors will flat out refuse to do a VBAC due to the risks involved. If this is the case, you can either go with your doctor's advice to have another cesarean or switch to a provider who will consider one.
Step2
Educate yourself on the incidence of uterine rupture during a VBAC. You can easily find statistics on uterine rupture during a VBAC for your country, state, city and even your hospital. Make sure that the statistics you find are up-to-date. Although uterine rupture is a concern, that risk gradually has declined in recent years.
Step3
Decide which will be an easier recovery for you: a VBAC or a cesarean. Although you may think that a VBAC would be an easier recovery, since no surgery is involved, some women say that the latter was easier for them.
