Step 1
Review the rules for your flag football league. You may find specific standards for shoes. For example, some flag football leagues outlaw metal cleats, while other leagues require cleats. If the rules don't cover footwear, contact the person in charge of the league and ask whether any type of footwear is not permitted.

Step 2
Decide what kind of flag football shoes you are interested in. Cleats are good for serious flag football players; however, they might be too dangerous for a casual player. A casual flag football player can wear regular tennis shoes.
-
Step 3
Go to a shoe store and try on the shoes. If you have decided on tennis shoes, look for a pair with good traction and firm ankle support. If you are going with cleats, test out different brands and styles to find the pair of cleats that you are most comfortable with.

Step 4
Practice in your new shoes before playing in an actual flag football game. You must get comfortable in your shoes before you are ready for live competition. Even if you just have to run on a field by yourself, that is a good way to prepare for the real thing.
