How to Use Nail Polish to Make Household Repairs

No matter how many manicures you give yourself, there's always more nail polish left in the bottle. You can use it for quick household repairs. These suggestions show you how to get the most from your nail polish.

1. Slow a crack in the windshield of your car until you can get it to the repair shop. Work in the shade and brush clear nail polish on the crack on both sides of the glass. Pull the car into the sun to dry.
2. Reset the stones in costume jewelry. Use a drop or 2 of nail polish as you would glue and push the stone firmly back into place.
3. Mend a screen door or window screen and keep bugs at bay. Paint clear nail polish over holes that are no larger than 1/4 inch.
4. Fill in nicks and dings on hardwood floors, Daub on a bit of nail polish to fill tiny nicks. Sand with 600-grit sandpaper to dull the shine of the nail polish if necessary.
5. Tighten a loose screw once and for all. Brush some nail polish on the threads before screwing it back into place.
6. Seal a cracked eyeglass lens until you can get to the optometrist. Paint a thin coat of clear nail polish along the crack on both sides of the lens.
7. Smooth tiny nicks and splinters on wood coat hangers with a coat or 2 of clean nail polish. Pain it on and let it dry before adding a second coat.
