How to Use Pantyhose in the Kitchen

When pantyhose and nylon tights are no longer wearable, you don't have to toss them in the trash. Run them through the laundry in a mesh bag and follow these suggestions to use them in the kitchen.

Instructions

    • 1

Maximize the life of onions by hanging them in a nylon holder fashioned from the leg of a pair of pantyhose. Push the first onion down into the foot of the stocking leg and tie a knot just above it. Place a second onion inside and tie another knot. Continue until all the onions are placed inside the stocking. Cut off the rest of the pantyhose, tie the leg off at the top, and hang it in the pantry to keep onions fresh. Remove onions from the bottom up by snipping off a knot.

Wad up a pair of pantyhose, add a few drops of dishwashing liquid and make a scrubber for non-stick cookware. Scrub away and discard when finished.

    • 3

Cover a rolling pin with a piece of pantyhose to keep pie dough from sticking to the pin. Add a bit of flour to the nylon and prevent messy clean-up later.

    • 4

Cut the elastic waistbands from the pantyhose and use them to hold trash liners to garbage cans. Secure the bag or liner to the can with the waistband and tie a knot in it to keep it snug.

    • 5

Banish dust puppies from beneath the fridge. Ball up a pair of old pantyhose and attach it to the end of a yardstick with a rubber band. Swipe under the refrigerator to catch the dust and toss the dustcatcher.

    • 6

Fashion a flour duster from the foot of a clean pair of old pantyhose. Fill it with flour and secure it with a knot and keep it in the flour bin. Give it a few shakes to dust a baking pan, or prepare a surface for rolling out dough.
