Dancing is an art that requires practice and patience. You are more likely to succeed by being consistent in your training sessions. If you are keen to improve your skill, follow these instructions to learn how to dance properly.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Select a type of dance that you wish to learn. Choose from jazz, ballet, country, ballroom, classical, contemporary, tap or hip hop.

  2. Step 2

Enroll in a dance class to learn proper dancing techniques. Be attentive and follow the instructor to learn the different routines.

  3. Step 3

Practice your skills every day. Observe yourself in a mirror to identify areas to improve. Also perform with a dance partner to build up your skills.

  4. Step 4

Keep yourself in shape. Stretch every day to keep your body flexible and follow a healthy diet. You can only dance properly when you are healthy and flexible enough to perform the various moves. Being in shape helps you to be comfortable with your body and confident in the way you look.

  5. Step 5

Watch dance videos and movies to learn various dance moves. This helps you to properly maneuver your body during a dance session.

  6. Step 6

Be confident when dancing. Have fun and do not let your body go tense. Relax your muscles and let your body move with the rhythms of the music.

  7. Step 7

When you master the dance moves and routines, experiment by doing improvised moves to take your dance to a whole new level.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always stretch your body before dancing.
  • Do not try something drastic without the approval of your instructor as it can cause serious injury.

on 4/17/2009 Always stretch your body before dancing. That's great advice. I haven't heard that in any article and it's so obvious. Thanks.
