Outlook Express is organized into viewing panes. Users can alter their view of Outlook Express and even make changes to personalize Outlook Express for the individual user. One of the modifications that users can perform is making changes to the columns. Find out how to change the columns shown in Outlook Express by following these steps.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Open the "View" menu in Outlook Express. Click on "Columns."

  2. Step 2

Place checkmarks next to columns you want visible. You can do this by clicking the box at the left of the entry or click on the column and "Show." Remove checkmarks next to columns you don't want in Outlook Express. Either click on one of the columns before clicking "Hide" or just click at the checkmark to remove it.

  3. Step 3

Arrange the order of your columns by clicking on one to highlight it. Then click either "Move Up" or "Move Down" to move it up or down the list.

  4. Step 4

Vary the width of each column by entering how many pixels wide you want the column to be. A pixel is a unit of measurement represented by tiny dots that make up images on the screen.

  5. Step 5

Click "OK" to save your changes. Access column changes also by right-clicking on heading lines like from, subject and received.

  6. Step 6

Sort items in each column in ascending or descending order. For example, if you want to read old messages first, you would click the bar labeled "Received" so that a triangle rests near it. If you prefer to read the newest message first, click at "Received" again so that the triangle next to it is inverted.

  7. Step 7

Use the "Sort by" option under the View menu as another way to give priority to a specific column.

Tips & Warnings
  • Further alter the look of your Outlook Express by opening the "View" menu and making changes to "Layout."
