Instructions

  1. Remove the Old

    • 1

      Disconnect the battery cables.

    • 2

Relieve any pressure in the fuel tank by removing the fuel cap.

    • 3

Unfasten the fuel lines from the pump. Be sure to wipe up any fuel that spills immediately.

    • 4

Remove the bolts that are holding the pump onto the mount and remove the fuel pump.

    • 5

Clean off any gasket residue that remains on the mating surface of the framework.

    Install the New

    • 6

Apply a layer of gasket sealer on both sides of the new gasket and put gasket over the bolts.

    • 7

Install the new mechanical fuel pump onto the engine. The rocker arm of the pump needs to be against the eccentric inside of the engine.

    • 8

Attach the fuel lines to the fuel pump. Reattach the lines to the carburetor. Use a wrench to make sure it is tight.

    • 9

      Reconnect the battery ground cable.

    • 10

Start the vehicle and check for leaks.

Tips & Warnings

  • Inspect the rubber fuel lines for damage. Replace them if there are any cracks or they appear brittle.

  • It may be necessary to reposition the engine's pump stroke to take pressure off of the pump rod for ease of installing.

  • If you notice fuel leaking after you disconnect the fuel lines, then you should crimp or plug the fuel supply line.

  • Fuel is highly combustible. No smoking, open flames, or sparks around your work area while changing a mechanical fuel pump.

  • Clean up any fuel spills thoroughly and immediately.
