Many people tend to be very particular about their bed pillows. When they find one they love, proper care can make it last longer. Whether you prefer down, feather or fiberfill pillows, these suggestions help you care for your bed pillows and extend their usefulness.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Remove the tags from new pillows. Staple each tag to an index card to keep a record of laundry instructions, fabric content and other important information.
Step2
Protect pillows from stains by encasing them in machine washable, zippered pillow protectors. Launder the pillow protectors once a month.
Step3
Fluff pillow daily when making the bed. Give the pillow a good shake to break up and redistribute filling.
Step4
Wash most down and feather pillows per the manufacturer's label. Launder bed pillows every three to six months to remove mold, bacteria and odors. Machine wash on the gentle cycle and use the "extra rinse" option if available.
Step5
Machine dry down and feather pillows. Dry pillows with an clean gym shoe in a mesh bag to prevent the pillow's fill from clumping.
Step6
Spot clean bed pillows that are not machine washable. Clean the cover with water and a little mild dishwashing liquid taking care not to dampen the fill. Dry in the sun at least twice a year.
Step7
Replace a pillow that is stained, flat or lifeless, or one that cannot be fluffed up. Choose a new pillow that retains its shape while providing proper support.

Tips & Warnings
