Outlook Express stores your email contacts in a contact folder, which can appear in one of the viewing panes. These contacts are stored in a Windows Address Book (.wab) file that you access in Outlook Express. The Address Book simplifies the use of your email program by allowing you to send single or multiple emails with ease. Follow these steps to automatically build an Address Book in Outlook Express.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Click "Add Sender to Address Book" under the "Tools" menu option anytime you receive a message from someone you want to include in your Outlook Express Address Book.

  2. Step 2

Reply to people that you want in your Address Book to activate an automatic option. Go to "Tools" in the menu bar, and choose "Options." Click on the "Send" tab, and place a check mark next to "Automatically put people I reply to in my Address Book."

  3. Step 3

Import an Address Book file from another program for an instant Address Book in Outlook Express. From the File menu option, click "Import," and then "Other Address Book." You have several programs from which to choose. If your address program doesn't come from any of the represented programs, choose "Text File (Comma Separated Values)." After choosing the program, click "Import."

  4. Step 4

Access the Import feature directly from the Address Book as well. Go to "Tools" on the menu bar to open the Address Book. Click "File," and then "Import" to choose an address book to import.

  5. Step 5

Import business cards (vCards) through the Import option in the Address Book window also. The business cards become a part of your Outlook Express Address Book.

Tips & Warnings
  • Windows Address Book is separate program that can be used outside of Outlook Express. It is often found in C:/windows/outlookexpress in your computer's Program Files.
  • Use your Address Book to store other contact information and personal data about people, including important dates like birthdays.
