1
Design the house layout. Choose a simple layout, as this makes the house more playable. Consider the Sims' daily routines. For example, think about where they go when they wake up in the morning. Try placing these rooms close together so that it is easier for the Sims to navigate the house.
-
2
Use the wall tool to create 3 large rooms: the living room, the kitchen and the dining room. These rooms are the largest because they hold the largest items. When possible, use walls that are diagonal, as they add to the room score and help eliminate any boxed feeling.

3
Make sure the Sims' house isn't too large or too small. Large houses take many Sim hours to navigate; small houses will give the Sims a cramped feeling. Don't make any unnecessary rooms, such as a pantry or a walk-in closet.
-
4
Operate the wall tool again and make 2 other rooms: the master bedroom and the bathroom. If there are Sim children, make one or two smaller bedrooms. The bedrooms should be smaller than the living room but larger than the bathroom. As a general rule, the bathroom should be about half the size of the master bedroom.

5
Add flooring and wallpaper to the house.

6
Furnish the house. Look in magazines for ideas on decorating if desired.
