How to Be a Nice Guy and Still Meet Women

For reasons that are unclear to both sexes, some women like men who treat them badly. Don't return their phone calls, cheat on them and you've got one of these women hooked. Take her to expensive restaurants and remember her birthday, and you're boring. But you can be a nice guy and still meet women. You just need to borrow a few rules from the bad boys' play book.

1. Be confident. It's not that women want to be treated badly, it's that the men who mistreat them have certain irresistible qualities that nice guys should copy. One of these is confidence. Walk into a bar like you know every woman there is putty in your hands and indeed they will turn to putty.

2. Be nonchalant. Bad boys expect to date beautiful women. Nice guys often act as if the women who attract them are celebrities. No matter how attractive a woman is, don't act too excited. You can become a wonderful boyfriend when the time comes. However, when you first meet, avoid sending the signal that reads, "You are out of my league."

3. Ooze charm. Bad boys know how to treat a woman when they actually show up for their dates. Bring flowers and compliment her. Take her out for a romantic evening. Then seduce her, if she's interested. Assume she is unless she tells you to back off.

4. Call her right away to thank her for a lovely date. Then go ahead and send her flowers, fix her grandmother's porch, coach her baby brother's little league team. Do whatever other wonderful things that you, as a nice guy, have been itching to do. Women are attracted to bad guys when they first meet, but niceness pays off for the long haul.

• Take no for an answer. Bad boys tend to push even when a woman rejects them, but pushing too much can lead to stalking, sexual assault and other charges. Be confident and seductive, but respect the woman you are pursuing.
