1. Learn a gathering profession. Mining and herbalism have the benefit of costing virtually no money to obtain and give access to many saleable items. This is the quickest way to make usable gold.
2. Farm instances. All instances have improved loot and those that include humanoids drop cloth and money as well. Not only will you pick up many greens that you can later resell, you will also come across the occasional blue item. These blue items will fetch a hefty price in the WoW auction house.
3. Grind mobs. Find an area that has a fast respawn rate and few to no ranged mobs. From here on, simply kill them as they respawn for an hour or 2. This works best with area of effect spells in areas in which the mobs are close together. It also helps if they drop something that will sell well, such as essence of air.
4. Watch the auction house. Knowing how much an item usually sells for is helpful for this step. If you see an item someone has posted especially low, you can buy it and repost it with a higher price.
5. Buy your gold online. This method is frowned upon by many players but more common than you might think. If you have some extra cash and you want to make gold without the work, consider buying it.
