Step 1
Try cornrows. This is the parting and braiding of hair very close to the scalp. Keep them in simple straight rows, or take advantage of complex geometric designs. Cornrows may be the easiest to maintain, but will need to be re-twisted more often due to the tight style against the scalp.
-
Step 2
Do a partial cornrow, to keep hair out of the face. This is a lovely option, especially for young girls. Hair will be kept out of the face, and can easily be adorned with barrettes and headbands. The back is left free.
-
Step 3
Get a sisterlocks ponytail. This is a trendy style that keeps hair up and out of the face always. The roots are woven close to the scalp and the rest of the hair is twisted on top of the head.
-
Step 4
Try box braids. This style hangs loosely from the scalp. The braids are of varying thickness, depending on the texture of hair being braided. This option probably leaves the most room for different styles to be utilized. Wear it down, braid it or wear it halfback.
-
Step 5
Get you hair twisted. Single and double strand twists are especially beautiful on shorter hair. This is the most natural look, and allows hair to take on the basic natural shape while keeping it tight and controlled.
-
Step 6
Finger comb hair and let it go natural. Maintenance of sisterlocks is fairly easy. Separate strands from each other on a daily basis, finger comb and you're done.
