People who are intoxicated can cause problems both on and off the road. It's important to know how to spot a drunk in order to avoid a possible confrontation or an accident. There are several telltale signs that a person is intoxicated, all of which aren't difficult to spot.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Listen for speech problems. If the person is slurring her words, chances are she's drunk. People often have trouble counting and reciting the alphabet when they're intoxicated, so test a potential drunk by asking them to do those things.
Step2
Watch how the person walks. Stumbling and the inability to walk a straight line are indicators that the person has had too much to drink.
Step3
Pay attention to what the person says. You can usually spot a drunk this way because people often get sentimental or obnoxious when they drink too much. If the person is talking out of character, she's likely drunk.
Step4
Smell the person's breath when he talks to you. Alcohol has a strong, pungent odor, and you can easily smell it on a drunk person's breath.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never let an intoxicated person drive. Take her keys and offer her a ride home. If she refuses your offer, call a taxi to pick her up.
