Mayonnaise is an egg-and-oil-based condiment that we use in salads and on sandwiches. The creamy stuff has a number of other uses as a health and beauty aid and is handy around the house as well. Check out these suggestions for ways to get more benefits from mayonnaise.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make a soothing facial with a handful of mayonnaise. Spread a thin layer over the face, avoiding the eye area, and leave on for 20 minutes. Rinse with cool water and pat dry.

  2. Step 2

Strengthen fingernails with a weekly mayo bath. Soak nails in mayonnaise for five minutes, then wash hands in warm water.

  3. Step 3

Exfoliate with mayo. Run mayonnaise over rough, dry skin on elbows, knees and feet. Leave on for ten minutes then buff off with a wet washcloth. Follow with a good moisturizer.

  4. Step 4

Eliminate crayon marks from wood furniture. Rub a little mayonnaise on the crayon mark and let it soak in for five to ten minutes, then wipe it away with a damp cloth.

  5. Step 5

Buff dull piano keys. Apply a little mayo to yellowing ivories, wait five minutes and wipe clean. Buff with a soft cloth to reveal like-new keys.

  6. Step 6

Cut road tar and pine sap on the car. Coat the sticky stuff with mayonnaise, wait several minutes and then wipe it off with a soft cloth.

  7. Step 7

Soothe sunburn pain and moisturize skin. Slather the sunburned area with a generous layer of cooling mayonnaise.

Tips & Warnings
  • Mayonnaise contains eggs and must be refrigerated.

on 1/9/2009 Thanks for the information! We ended up with a "mega" jar of mayonnaise left over from doing our own finger sandwiches at our reception. Normally we don't eat much of it, so the hair conditioning and face cleansing will certainly help in using it before it spoils!
