How to Make Hot Mulled Cider in a Microwave

On a frosty winter day, nothing will warm you from the inside out like a steaming, spicy cup of hot mulled apple cider. It is a snap to make in the microwave and your house will smell wonderful for hours.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 qt. apple juice or apple cider
  • 3/4 tsp. pumpkin pie spice
  • Orange slices
  • Whole cloves
  • Cinnamon sticks

    Regular Microwave Mulled Cider

  1. Step 1

    Combine apple juice or apple cider with cloves and cinnamon in a microwaveable mug, cup or glass.

  2. Step 2

    Heat in the microwave oven, uncovered, for 2 to 3 minutes.

  3. Step 3

    Garnish with whipped cream and nutmeg.

  4. Step 4

    Makes one cup.

  5. Spicy Microwave Mulled Cider

  6. Step 1

    Mix the apple juice or apple cider in a microwaveable container.

  7. Step 2

    Pour the hot mixture into heavy mugs.

  8. Step 3

    Stick a few whole cloves into the orange slices.

  9. Step 4

    Put an orange slice in each mug.

  10. Step 5

    Add one cinnamon stick to each serving.

  11. Step 6

    Recipe makes 4 or 5 servings.

Tips & Warnings
  • To spice up the mulled cider, add several black peppercorns and 2 tbsp. of brown sugar while the mixture is heating.
  • Some citrus zest will add a delicious refreshing flavor to the hot mulled cider. Lemons, limes or oranges all work beautifully. Use zest from ½ of the citrus fruit for each quart of hot microwave mulled cider.
  • A dash of Worcestershire sauce will add zip to hot mulled cider.
  • You can store cooled, mulled cider in the refrigerator for up to one week. Put the cider in a mug and heat it in the microwave before serving.
