If you find that your pots and pans are stacked to the brim in one of your cupboards, or if you're tired of shuffling through every pot just to find the one that you want, you need to create a hanging put rack. Your kitchen will be more organized, and a cabinet will be freed up for other storage.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Two 4 inch eyescrews (or decorative hooks)
  • Two 2 inch eyebolts
  • 2 S-hooks
  • 4 washers and 4 nuts that will fit the 2" eyebolt
  • One 1 1/2 inch wooden dowel that is 44 inches long
  • 4 to 6 feet of decorative metal chain
  • 6-10 eyehooks
  • Drill with a 2-inch bit
  • Pliers
  • Wrench
  • Ladder
  • Tape measure
Step1
Locate the ceiling joists. They are usually about 16 inches apart.
Step2
Twist the 4 inch eyescrews into the joist, making certain that it has a firm grip on the wood, not just the plasterboard. Space the eyescrews or decorative hooks about 32 inches apart for the 44 inch rack. Make certain that these are even and equal distance from the wall. Also check the space from the wall. It should allow for the pots and pans to hang freely, without touching the wall.
Step3
Use a drill to put holes in the dowel at the same distance that you have spaced the hooks. The 2-inch eyebolts go in these holes.
Step4
Screw a nut onto the 2 inch eyebolt. Add a washer and put the bolt into one hole you drilled on the dowel, with the washer and nut on the top. Secure it in the hole in the dowel by putting on a second washer followed by the second nut. Tighten firmly down with a pliers holding the eyebolt and a wrench for the nut. Do the same for the other side
Step5
Screw the eyehooks into the bottom of the dowel with the eyebolt on the top. Space them far enough apart so the pots and pans can hang freely.
Step6
Measure two equal lengths of decorative chain. These will be the distance from the ceiling that you want to hang the pot rack.
Step7
Connect the chain to the eyescrew, or decorative hook, in the ceiling. Connect the other end to the 2-inch eyebolts in the dowel, using the S-hooks. You're now ready to hang the pots.

Tips & Warnings

  • If the ceiling joists are at a right angle to the way that you wish to hang the rack, you may be limited to 16, 24, 32 or 48 inch spacing.
