Step1
Decide what kind of tack you need. All horses need good halters and leads. Miniature horses can be ridden by small children or they can pull carts, both of which require special tack.

Determine how ornate the tack should be. If you're showing your mini, you'll want fancier tack than if your horse is just for pleasure. Even in a show ring, though, you won't want ostentatious tack.

Locate a store specializing in miniature tack. Most tack stores are designed for regular horses and won't have a full line of tack for minis. If you live in an area with a lot of minis, you might find some tack at a tack store. If not, you can buy tack online at stores like Ozark Mountain Miniature Horse Tack and Supplies.

Know your horse's measurements. Miniature horses come in such a wide range of sizes that simply buying tack made for a miniature horse might not work. If you're not sure how to measure your mini, ask tack store personnel.

Select your tack, making sure it's both functional and attractive for your particular mini. As you choose the tack, think about your horse's coloring as well as how you'll be using the tack.

Check the store's return policy before you buy, especially if you're purchasing online. Tack won't always fit your mini, and you might need to return it.
