Knitting is becoming more popular. Of all garments you can knit, a vest is very easy. You can pick the color you want the vest to be and the kind of yarn you'd like to use. The vest consists of a front, back and sleeve holes. If you like, you can add buttons or make it a pullover.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Knitting needles
  • Yarn
  • Sewing needle
  • Other notions called for by the pattern
  1. Step 1

Pick a vest pattern. You can find free patterns on the Internet, or you can pick a pattern out of a knitting book. Go to your local knitting and yarn store for ideas.

  2. Step 2

Select yarn color and needles. You will need two different sizes of needles. Cast on the number of stitches for the size vest you will be making on the smaller size needles.

  3. Step 3

Knit your ribbing using either a k1,p1 or k2,p2 to the desired length. Then change to the larger needle. Knit according to the pattern you chose. Beginners should keep it simple by using a stitch like a garter stitch.

  4. Step 4

After you complete the front, bind off the stitches. Make the back in exactly the same way. Holding right sides together, using the sewing needle, sew the front to the back. After making your final stitches, you will have a vest.
