Evaluate the level of the depression you are dealing with either with yourself or with your client. Take or administer the Beck's depression inventory so you can discern the severity, duration and scope of the depression.

Visit or refer to a medical doctor for a full medical examination to rule out any medical conditions. Return to hypnotherapy and give a determination as to whether the depression is organic or psychological.

Locate where the depression is in the body. Often times, depression is experienced as a heavy leaden feeling in the legs and arms,or a general heaviness in the body. Write down words associated with the feelings that you associated with the depression like heavy, slow, sluggish, dark, murky, etc., Putting these words in your suggestion will aid in accessing these depressive feelings.

Step 4
Pick a hypnotic method, such as direct suggestion, counting method, progressive relaxation, etc. Find a hypnotic specialist or locate an instructional book that will aid in the hypnotic process and help you or the client to feel lighter during the process.

Find somewhere quiet where there will be no interruption. Carefully deliver or have delivered your hypnotic suggestions so that you ensure maximum benefit from your hypnotic sessions.

Repeat hypnotic process until desired result is reached. Add cognitive suggestions to help aid in everyday functioning and use often for major depression.
