Chicken wire is inexpensive and easy to find. But if you don't have chickens, what possible need could you have for it? The truth is that chicken wire has a lot of clever applications in and around the house. The following suggestions show useful tips for chicken wire and a number of creative ideas.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Repel deer by rolling chicken wire out around the perimeter of the garden or flower beds. Stake the chicken wire flat to the ground to discourage deer that don't like to walk on it.

  2. Step 2

Prevent borrowing animals from decimating flower bulbs. Line the bottom of a prepared flower bed with chicken wire then set bulbs into place to keep the gnawing creatures at bay.

  3. Step 3

Keep flower arrangements in line. Squash a ball of chicken wire and push it into the bottom of the container before setting the flowers into place.

  4. Step 4

Build a kid-proof corral for dangerous garden implements, tools and toxic substances in the garage or shed. Attach standard-width chicken wire to the corner of the wall to create two sides of the corral. Staple 1x2 inch stick to the cut ends of the wire and put two sets of screw eyes into the strips of wood. Attach a padlock the corral.

  5. Step 5

Anchor fence posts and make them more secure. Wrap the base of the post with chicken wire before setting it into concrete.

  6. Step 6

Keep fiberglass insulation from sagging between rafters. Staple chicken wire across the rafters or across floor joists to secure the insulation.

  7. Step 7

Cover a catnip plant with a sheet of chicken wire to protect the roots. Cats can chomp on the new growth while the roots remain intact so the hardy perennial can grow back year after year.
