How to Visit the New York City Fire Museum

The New York City Fire Museum is home to one of the world's largest collections of fire related memorabilia. Artifacts include items from the 18th century to present day. The museum is found in the Soho district of the city on Spring Street.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Pay the suggested admission prices. The suggested museum prices are extremely low and help maintain and preserve the New York City Fire Museum.

  2. Step 2

    Visit the museum's permanent collection, which includes historic fire engines, antique fire fighting equipment and a collection of over 2,000 fire marks.

  3. Step 3

    Check out the museum's permanent September 11 exhibit and memorial. This exhibit honors the firemen and other people who lost their lives during the September 11 attacks.

  4. Step 4

    Attend a fire safety program. These programs teach visitors how to keep themselves and their families safe in the event of a fire.

  5. Step 5

    Purchase a FDNY shirt from the museum store. To show your support for the New York City Fire Department, buy one of the clothing items with the department's logo.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have a group of 20 or more which wants to visit the museum, set up a tour. The tour is very informative and led by a retired fireman.
  • If you live or work in Soho, you don't have to pay admission to the museum. To gain entry, let the staff know that you are a museum neighbor.
  • Although using public transportation is the preferred method to arrive at the museum, there is a paid parking lot located next door to the building.
