How to Visit the Central Park Zoo

The Central Park Zoo is located right in the middle of Central Park in New York City. It is owned and operated by the Wildlife Conservation Society and houses over a hundred different species. You will find everything from bats and birds to polar bears and sea lions at the Central Park Zoo.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Go to the zoo any time of the year. Central Park Zoo is open all year round with limited hours during the winter months. Admission is charged when you arrive and a reduced rate is offered to seniors and children.

  2. Step 2

    Find the zoo near the east side entrance between 63rd and 66th Streets. The zoo covers more than five acres and features a traditional zoo as well as a children's zoo.

  3. Step 3

    Visit the Polar Bear Zone. This exhibit features two popular polar bears as well as harbor seals, penguins and other arctic friends.

  4. Step 4

    Make time for the Temperate Territory. In this section of the Central Park Zoo, you will find a red panda, Japanese macaques, otters, ducks and geese.

  5. Step 5

    Read the descriptions located at each exhibit. You'll find the animal's description, country of origin, habitat and diet information.

  6. Step 6

    Take the children to the north end of the zoo to the children's area. You can feed the domestic animals in this section, including goats, sheep and pigs. They also hold educational programs for children all year round.

Tips & Warnings
  • The Acorn Theater is located in the children's section of the Central Park Zoo. There are daily animal themed shows held in the theater.
  • You must use the provided machines to get food to feed the animals at the zoo. Guests are charged a quarter for a handful of feed.
