How to Visit Pyramid Lake, Nevada

One of the world's largest desert lakes, Pyramid Lake is about a half hour drive from Reno, Nevada. The lake gets its name from well-known rock formation that is shaped like an old Egyptian pyramid that reaches 400 feet above the water.       Follow Route 447 North to the Truckee River. Visit the Numana Hatchery Visitor Center and learn about the area's history and fish facts. You can also walk along the wetlands nature trail.

      Keep driving north to see the captivating beauty of the lake before you. Take in the surreal scenery of the lake when you first arrive. You can also visit the Scenic Byway Visitor Center and Tribal Museum.

      From here, travel west on Route 446 towards Sutcliffe. This area has several beach areas perfect for swimming and fishing. If you go fishing in Pyramid Lake, you're likely to catch large trout.

      Visit the Pyramid Lake Marina, located in Sutcliffe, with its visitor center and museum. Check out the marina and tourist center to see the gift shop and large gallery of pictures of the lake's history.

      Go North of Sutcliffe to Pelican Point and Warrior Point for more beaches.

      Travel to the west side of the lake to the Sawtooth formation to experience the hot springs.

      To return south from Sutcliffe, take Route 445 towards Sparks. You can stop at Mullen Pass at the overlook to see a scenic view of the lake. Plan to arrive here at sunset for a spectacular view of the lake range in a red glow as you return to Reno.
