This 4-H photography project can help you learn how to use a camera—flash techniques, lenses and shutter speeds—like a professional. Learn what it's like to have a career in photography or just create your own scrapbooks and projects. Follow the steps to learn how to start your 4-H photography project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Be in or join 4-H. If you are between third grade and a year out of high school, you are eligible to join. Contact your county 4-H office for more information.

  2. Step 2

Sign up for the project. Contact your county 4-H office or project leader to sign up for your individual project level based on your age and current skills.

  3. Step 3

Make a project plan to develop your ideas. Choose to volunteer to take photos at a family reunion, frame photos you have taken to give as gifts, photograph a special event or historical sites in your county or a similar project for an exhibit or scrapbook.

  4. Step 4

Take photos, using the skills you learn from 4-H required classes or workshops and your own research. Use resources to help you—ask a local photographer or art teacher specific questions or go to the library to find books on photography, scrapbooking or framing.

  5. Step 5

Participate in photography activities such as 4-H demonstrations, fair exhibits and photo contests.

  6. Step 6

Talk to your project leader about other activities, courses or tasks you must complete for this project. Your leader may require you to keep a journal and update your progress along the way.
