Making homemade baby food instead of buying commercially-jarred food for your baby is a much healthier and cheaper way to feed your little one. Very few supplies are needed, and once you have them in stock, you can whip up a batch of homemade food your baby will love in no time flat.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Blender or food processor
  • Ice cube trays
  • Freezer bags
  • Colander
  • Steamer basket
  • Masher
  • Permanent marker
  • Spatula
  • Large pot
  1. Step 1

Purchase a high-quality blender or food processor. If you plan on making baby food in large batches for freezing, you're going to use this appliance quite a bit, so make sure it's a dependable brand name.

  2. Step 2

Buy a large pot, a steamer basket for steaming fruits and vegetables, and a colander for holding and draining the cooked food. You will use these supplies often, so ensure the products you purchase are durable.

  3. Step 3

Find a spatula to scoop homemade baby food out of the food processor or blender and into the ice cube trays for freezing.

  4. Step 4

Obtain a masher for mashing fruits and vegetables into chunkier pieces once your baby is old enough to move beyond pureed food.

  5. Step 5

Locate ice cube trays with lids. Freezing homemade baby food in ice cube trays allows you to defrost the perfect baby-sized portion for your little one.

  6. Step 6

Get some freezer bags for storing the food once it's frozen in the ice cube trays, and a permanent marker, which you'll use to label the bags with the name of the baby food inside, along with the date you froze it.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use a food processor rather than a blender for making batches of thicker pureed food, as you can scoop it out of the bottom of a food processor easier than you can a blender.
  • When pureeing baby food in a food processor or blender, do not over stuff the appliance or the food will not puree smoothly. Fill the appliance about halfway full to achieve the best outcome.
