How to Tour Mount Rainier by Train

The Mount Rainier Scenic Railroad is based in Mineral, Washington. The vintage train is pulled by an authentic steam engine. Tour the scenic mountain with beautiful foliage and scenery year round. With special events planned all through the year, a ride on the train is sure to be a memorable event.

Instructions

      Make reservations for the train by calling (888) STEAM11 or (360) 492-5588. Make holiday and weekend reservations well in advance.

      Park at the train station located at 349 Mineral Creek Road, Mineral, Washington. Arrive at least a half an hour prior to departure time.

      Take a shop tour before or after the train ride. See the train restoration and maintenance facilities as well as locomotive storage facilities.

      Ride the train through the mountains for special events. Take the fall foliage trip, the snowball express or the ghost train tour to Mineral Lake.

      Dress in layers of clothing. Plan on the temperature being significantly cooler on the mountain than in town. Bring hats, gloves, scarves and boots for winter tours.

  • Small children can ride the great pumpkin express during daylight hours which are less frightening.
