You have a vision of going faster than any man has before on land. While taking a few things into consideration, like power-to-weight ratio and aerodynamics, along with practicing perseverance, you can do anything. Here's how you can break a motorcycle land speed record in no time flat.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Research what has been done before. Starting from the current high speed motorcycle engineering, see what you can modify. With some vision, you might make a part of the motorcycle lighter and improve the power-to-weight ratio or maybe make the whole assembly more stable.
Step2
Draw plans for your new motorcycle design. With a little prior thought, you will eliminate some costly modifications during the building process.
Step3
Build a prototype for your land speed record. This is the expensive and time consuming part. You will need machinist skills and tools and a good bit of engineering knowledge.
Step4
Take a trip to the Bonneville Salt Flats. Here is where Burt Munro set his motorcycle speed record. It is a long strip of flat land perfect for trying out your little piece of engineering to see just how fast you can go.
Step5
Persevere. One thing that the legend of Burt Munro taught us is that if once you don't succeed, bore out the pistons and try it again.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sometimes it doesn't take a bunch of fancy parts and an unlimited bank account to break a motorcycle land speed record. For instance, Burt Munro, owner of the world's fastest Indian motorcycle, broke the record in his class by using home grown ingenuity and a few machinist skills.
