The Forward Pass is a pretty basic move and must be learned in order to perform many different yo-yo tricks. This trick should be one of the first yo-yo tricks you learn after the basic Gravity Pull. Follow the steps provided to master throwing a Forward Pass.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Wind the yo-yo string around its axle all the way and put the string loop around the middle finger of your dominant hand. Grasp the yo-yo firmly in your palm.

  2. Step 2

Hold the yo-yo in your hand down at your side with your palm facing downward and the front of your wrist facing forward.

  3. Step 3

Throw the yoyo forward in front of you instead of downward, flicking your wrist up as you do so.

  4. Step 4

Let the yo-yo go all the way out to the end of the string directly in front of you in a horizontal line, bringing your yo-yo hand at chest level in front of you.

  5. Step 5

Give the yo-yo a slight jerk as it reaches the end of the string to bring it back to you.

  6. Step 6

Turn your palm upward as the yo-yo returns up the string and grasp it in your hand.

  7. Step 7

Practice this throw over and over until you can do it easily and effortlessly.

Tips & Warnings
  • The yo-yo should not be jerky or wobbly during this trick. The forward pass should be one quick smooth movement of the arms, hand and yo-yo.
  • You should not have to reach for the yo-yo to catch it. Pull it gently, yet hard enough so that it goes directly back into your hand.
  • Don't get frustrated if you cannot do this throw right away. Practice will help you get the hang of it.
