Cops are all around. You may need a cop in an emergency situation or to report an accident or an incident. Most cops wear uniforms and badges and are easy to identify. However, there are times when they are not so easy to identify. Undercover cops are not easy to find because they normally do not wear uniforms. However, there are ways that one can identify a cop.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Step1
Look for the uniform. Most cops will wear a uniform and have a badge attached to the uniform. Cops will also have a name badge and a patch identifying which police station or area they are representing.
Step2
Watch the actions of a potential undercover cop. They will normally be watching other people as they look for someone in particular.
Step3
Review the car. Most cops will be seated inside a police car or a car that has a governmental license plate. Most police cars usually have a siren on top or located inside the windshield of the car.
Step4
Ask the person if they are a cop. When all else fails, simply ask the suspected person if they are a police officer. If you do not want to be direct, you can ask them if they know where you can locate a cop or the nearest police station.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never assume someone is a cop. When in doubt, ask.
  • Always ask to see some identification from the cop. If they cannot show you an identification, they are not a cop.
