If you consider your beloved pooch a tad unattractive, you may want to enter him in the World's Ugliest Dog Contest, held every June during the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California. Canine contestants from all over the world gather at the fair in hopes of beating out fellow "ugly" dogs to claim the top prize and achieve worldwide infamy. Read on to learn how to enter the world's ugliest dog contest.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Determine if your dog is truly ugly. Open a search engine and enter the keywords "World's ugliest dog pictures" to see how your canine compares with past contest finalists and winners.

  2. Step 2

Visit the Sonoma-Marin Fair website, click on "Fairtime Events And Attractions" and then click on "World's Ugliest Dog Contest." The application to enter the contest is available beginning in early spring.

  3. Step 3

Call Sonoma-Marin Fair organizers for additional information about entering the contest.

  4. Step 4

Go to the Visit Petaluma website to research and book accommodations for you and your dog during the contest.

  5. Step 5

Drive or fly to Petaluma, California, and check in to your hotel. You should arrive at least a day before the contest so your dog has ample time to recover from the trip.

  6. Step 6

Prepare your pooch for the excitement of the contest by giving her some extra attention and love. You may also want to feed her a favorite meal before the contest begins to ensure she's on her best behavior.

  7. Step 7

Bring your dog to the fairgrounds on the day of the contest, and fill out the necessary paperwork to enter him in the contest.

Tips & Warnings

  • When you book your lodging accommodations in Petaluma, ensure that the establishment you select welcomes pets.
  • Try to reduce your dog's stress level as much as possible during your journey to Petaluma. If your dog is small and you are flying to California, ask the airlines if you can stow his carrier under your seat rather than in the luggage compartment.
