One of the most frustrating tasks confronting mankind is the replacement of spring bars that link watchbands to watch cases. They tend to pop out when you put pressure on them, and it can be very hard to get a firm grip on them, especially when they are inserted in the band or if you have big hands. Here are a few tips to make the task easier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Spin bar removal tool or jeweler's screwdriver

Step1
Purchase a watchband removal tool or jeweler's screwdriver. These tools are easy to use and can save a lot of time and frustration.
Step2
Remove the old spring bar by gently depressing one end of the bar attaching the watchband to the watch case and moving it out of the hole holding it in place.
Step3
Insert your new spring bars into the ends of your watchband.
Step4
Insert one end of the new spring bar into the retaining hole on the watch case.
Step5
Depress the spring bar using your removal tool or screwdriver, and move the other end of the bar into the opposite hole. Then release it.

Tips & Warnings

  • Be careful the spring bars don't pop out of the holes while you are depressing them. Using the removal tool or jeweler's screwdriver will cut down on this possibility, but it can still happen.
  • Be careful not to scratch your watch case or band when using the removal tool. This can easily happen if the tool slips off the end of the spring bar.
