Step 1
Read all about the program you want to try. See what principles the weight loss plan is based on. Two of the main things to pay attention to are the number of carbohydrate and fat grams.
-
Step 2
Consider how many people have stayed with the diet to reach their weight goal. See if they regain the weight after six months. You will just have to ask around and keep your ears open to get this information.
-
Step 3
Choose a weight loss plan that encourages weight loss in an easy to follow manner. You must choose a plan that allows you to eat foods that will keep you satisfied (not hungry). A good balance of appropriate foods is really what you need along with exercise of some sort.
-
Step 4
Think about cost of the plan. If you have to buy special foods, pay meeting dues or consume pills, you may not see that your new weight loss plan is worth the trouble. This being the case, you will slip and go off the diet.
-
Step 5
Lose the weight with Weight Watchers meetings. This plan is widely considered to be one of the best. Calorie control and portions have strict rules and you have to stay positive about yourself. These things work, and going to meetings allows some interaction with people in similar shape.
-
Step 6
Go for a low carbohydrate food plan. A good example is the Atkins diet. It works for people who stick with it. If someone is a carbohydrate addict, they may have a little problem with the menus. The great part is that you are able to eat a pretty good amount of meat and cheese on this weight loss plan. Just steer clear of sweets, breads and pasta.

Step 7
Keep your fat intake to less than 30 percent of your total foods in one day. The amount of cholesterol should stay below 300 mg. If you follow these numbers, you should be fine. But you really have to follow it. The hardest part of watching your fat is reading labels.
