Step 1
Find an organization you care about. This is an important step because you will work harder and get more enjoyment working for a cause that is close to your heart.
-
Step 2
Budget volunteer hours. Christmas is a busy time--don't commit to more time than you have available. By setting aside a reasonable amount of time you'll be more likely to meet your commitment.
-
Step 3
Harvest your talents. Look at your hobbies and find one that might be useful to an organization this Christmas.
-
Step 4
Get your kids involved. They will learn to appreciate the true meaning of Christmas and have a great time volunteering as a family.
-
Step 5
Let the extended family help. Tell your parents, in-laws, aunts, uncles and friends that you don't want gifts this year. Explain where you plan to volunteer and ask everyone to make a donation in your name.
-
Step 6
Buy sponsored gifts. For example, if a local charity is selling holiday teddy bears, buy one. You will have a gift for someone and the satisfaction of donating money to a good cause.
