Sufism is considered a mystical practice by the Islamic religion. Meditation is a vital part of this practice. The purpose is to manifest the Divine Spirit, Prophet Muhammad, who Muslims consider to be the final prophet. Begin meditation exercises in short intervals of five to 15 minutes a day, gradually increasing your sessions to one hour or more. The key to Sufic meditation is consistency, so it is advised to meditate for short periods daily. Follow these instructions to try Sufic meditation.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Make wudu. Wudu is the obligatory ablution, or cleansing ritual with water, that all Muslims must perform to ready themselves for prayer.

  2. Step 2

Locate a clean, uncluttered space facing the east. East is the direction of the Kabah in Mecca. This is the direction all Muslims face around the world when it is time for prayer.

  3. Step 3

Clear your mind of all distractions and worldly concerns. Silently make your niaat, or intentions, regarding the purpose of your prayer and meditation.

  4. Step 4

Perform two rakats. These are the short, non-obligatory prayers that are usually performed prior to the obligatory prayer.

  5. Step 5

Sit on your knees. After you complete your rakats, sit down, close your eyes and focus all of your energy and attention on pleasing God.

  6. Step 6

Recite the Kalima Tayyab. The Kalima Tayyab is: "la ilaha illallah." It is a testament of faith in Islam. Say it silently over and over to yourself or out loud as a mantra. Repeat the Kalima Tayyab 100 times or more.
