How to Install a Catch Basin
Catch basins generally are built along a street's curb. They serve as a collection reservoir for rainwater and as a gateway to the sewer or storm drain system. 1
Determine where you'll install the catch basin and dig out the area. Plan for a minimum depth clearance of 12 inches for a proper fit.
-
2
Block off the surrounding location with safety barriers.
-
-
3
Remove the selected preformed cutout before situating the catch basin.
-
4
Measure how far down to place the bedding concrete. Generally, the distance down should equal the thickness of the slab and the minimum depth is 4 inches.
-
5
Add the bedding concrete and wait until it has set sufficiently to hold the catch basin before you place the basin on top of the concrete.
-
6
Use a level to align the catch basin and adjust it to the correct grade.
-
7
Put the pipe connections in place.
-
8
Refill the area surrounding the edges of the catch basin with concrete. Add enough concrete to reach the channel's excavation level.
