Step 1
Have boxing experience, whether amateur or professional, to establish credibility with your clientèle. Your experience in the ring will show potential fighters that you possess the technical knowledge necessary to coach them.

Earn your coaching certification. There are various levels of certification depending on your aspirations. Level I certification is for those who want to be a boxing coach at a local gym, while Level V—the highest level—is required to coach a boxer at the Olympic level. Set up shop in your own facility or rent a space in a local boxing gym, fitness or health club.

Provide the necessary boxing equipment so your gym looks professional. Make sure you have a boxing ring, heavy bags and speed bags, free weights, jump ropes, mirror and a medicine ball. Also have an assortment of boxing gloves and hand wraps available for walk-ins.

Consider teaching classes at a local boys and girls club, school or university to get your name out to the public. Instruct your students and fighters in proper technique and also about the official rules and regulations of boxing.
