1
Find an astronomy club or society in your area. Study the stars with people in your community who share your passion. Check out a local university posting or check the web to find established groups that you could join.
-
2
Locate a strong Astronomy department. Search for a university that has a well rounded science course list, but also be sure that they have Astronomy as well.

3
Get a degree. Astronomy involves many different sciences, and getting a degree in physics, math, or astronomy can help you learn more about the world and space. With grades that are high enough in the sciences at the university level, you can be accepted to get a research degree or get a job at a research institute.

4
Buy a good quality telescope. If getting a degree in Astronomy is not your cup of tea, then study the stars in your own back yard. With a good telescope you can observe and chart the stars on your own. If you live in an area that has a lot of light pollution, however, you may have to take lengthy drives to get a good viewing area.

5
Read everything you can get your hands on. For Astronomy buffs there can never be too much information. Go to your local library, search the web, talk to local Astronomers and get answers to the questions you have. It will help you study the stars if you can be a self-starter and increase your science and math knowledge on your own or through a university.
