Being a hermaphrodite presents numerous physical and social obstacles. There is a stigma attached, undeservedly, to this condition. Hermaphroditism is where a person has the sexual reproductive organs of both a male and a female. While society is beginning to accept transsexual and transgender people, hermaphrodites are left behind in the cultural consciousness.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Go to hermaphrodite, transgender and transsexual message boards to put out feelers for peoples' overall temperament towards hermaphrodites. Try other message boards as well, which are in some way related to the issue, sexual or medical boards, for instance. Try to get a feel for how much the general population knows about the condition.

  2. Step 2

Get as much information about the condition as possible. If you are a hermaphrodite, you probably already know a great deal, but there may be specific things you don't know that can help you explain it to someone who is completely ignorant about the condition.

  3. Step 3

Prepare yourself for any kind of reaction imaginable. People may be confused, fascinated, disgusted, curious or any other number of things when learning of this condition. Often, peoples' reactions are based somewhat on their cultural and religious background, so take this into account when you decide who to speak to about the condition.

  4. Step 4

Deliver the information in a clear and concise manner, as if you are explaining something ordinary. Often, the way people feel about something has a lot to do with how they learn about it.

Tips & Warnings
  • The condition affects not just humans but animals as well.
  • If explaining hermaphroditism to a child, it may help to have pictures or some other sort of visual aid, as children may not have a comprehensive idea of what both sets of sexual organs look like.
