Leading a church choir takes a caring, yet stern and experienced choir director. The director must be determined, ready to work hard and have ample supply of prayers in time of need. The rewards and joys of a full choir singing religious songs during a service is triumphant. Follow these steps to realize this dream.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Organize all the formalities for a legal and successful church choir. Set short term goals and long term goals. Have a room with chairs, a dry erase board or blackboard, a piano, and someone to accompany the singers and weekly rehearsal scheduled.
Step2
Recruit singers. Advertise in the church bulletin or newsletter, contact church members personally and get the word out that you want singers. Ask prospects in a direct way, saying, "We need some good singers with a great heart, some spare time and the willingness to learn music for our church choir."
Step3
Find easy-to-learn material that fits your church doctrine like "All The Earth Will Sing for Joy," "Alleluia, Praise His Name," "At Home, Let There Be Love" and "Bread, Wine and Life."
Step4
Thank the choir for their hard work and dedication. On a Sunday after the choir has really come together, give recognition in the bulletin or newsletter and from the pulpit. Hold a picnic or other social gathering to relax and get to know everyone better. Acknowledge birthdays and send get well cards.
Step5
Keep the spirit and prayers. Continue establishing the choir by getting choir robes and lapel pins. Plan a yearly calendar for learning new songs for the holidays. Keep planning and make new goals.

Tips & Warnings

  • Always choose choir singers, not those who want to sing solo.
  • A Wednesday Workout and Harmony Singing are very resourceful books to read about singing as a choir.
  • All music is copyrighted. Photocopying music from copyrighted material is illegal, even for a church.
