A little-known secret of the British Virgin Islands is the "Full Moon Party." Every month, on the full moon, several establishments throw the best parties in the islands complete with bands, drink specials and more.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Know the lunar cycle. When you are heading to the islands, check to see when the next full moon takes place. If you get lucky, you might be there during the full moon.
Step2
Check out the local establishments. Getting from island to island can be difficult, so you may want to check out a local bar even if it isn't considered one of the best parties.
Step3
If you're on Tortola, check out the party at the Bhamba Shack or at Trellis Bay. These two parties are the two top spots in the B.V.I.'s.
Step4
Go to the Bhamba Shack. The Bhamba Shack is a local bar located near West End. It is nothing more than a shack on the beach, started by a local surfer who sold drinks and sandwiches to other surfers. Throughout the years, the Bhamba Shack evolved into a night spot. Every full moon, they have a huge party. It is the top Full Moon Party in the islands, but be careful and don't drink the mushroom tea if you aren't prepared.
Step5
Go to Trellis Bay. Trellis Bay is located on the other side of Tortola, next to the Beef Island Airport, the only airport on Tortola. It is another popular full moon party spot, and is more convenient to island visitors on other British Virgin Islands, since many water taxis and resort boats travel to Trellis Bay all the time. This party is also on the beach, but the bar is a more traditional beach bar.

Tips & Warnings

  • The mushroom tea at the Bhamba Shack is what you think it is. Don't drink it thinking that it is just a traditional island drink, because it is not.
