To teach classes in Microsoft products, you have to be an MCT, an acronym for Microsoft Certified Trainer. Microsoft has specific steps in how to become a certified trainer. It is well worth the effort to obtain this certification.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

Acquire a Microsoft Certification. There are several areas to pursue for this. Testing and certification are available through Prometric.

  2. Step 2

Prove that you have instructional skills. There are four ways to show this. Providing evidence of your Certified Technical Trainer certification from CompTIA is the first way. You can also attend and pass a presentation skills course, show that you are a technical trainer or that you are an instructor at an accredited academic institution.

  3. Step 3

Complete the MCT application. You can find the application on the Microsoft website. There is a fee which depends on your location.

  4. Step 4

Have your application approved. You will receive a welcome packet on Microsoft approval. The packet will include a welcome letter, certificate, wallet card, DVD and special offers.

  5. Step 5

Maintain your certification. Each April you are required to re-certify. This entails filling out the certification form and paying the yearly fee.

  6. Step 6

Keep your Microsoft MCT training current. As with any technology field there is always new material. Keep on top of all the new information and procedures from Microsoft.
