How to Play Hooky

The pressure and responsibilities of school or work are overwhelming at times. Sometimes a person just needs a break. Playing hooky can be a great way to break the tension and pressure. Just take an unscheduled impromptu day to unwind. In the end, it does a person good to take some personal time.

1. Determine if the parents are amenable to the idea of playing hooky though this may take some of the excitement out of it. However, if explained correctly, it makes it a lot less likely for there to be trouble. Be certain that the parents are down with it before asking. If not, then there is no day off and just as much trouble.

2. Pick the correct day to play hooky. Make sure the parents do not have a slow workday or that they may be dropping by the school for a parent teacher meeting or the like. Also, choose a day when something is going on at school like a assembly or a pep rally. On days such as this, the teachers and school officials are more distracted and less likely to call a parent.

3. Obtain an excused absence note. Writing excuse notes is tricky. If there are any other notes on file at school, the administrators may notice a discrepancy in handwriting. This is why writing the notes yourself or having friends do it is a bad idea. Find something around the house that was signed by a parent. Things such as cancelled checks, and contracts are good examples. Then trace the signature to get the best authenticity. It is okay for the student to write the remainder of the note.

4. Choose unusual places to go on the hooky day. If a person goes to familiar hangouts, they are much too likely to be recognized. That can come back to haunt a hooky player later. For instance, if the parents stop and someone who works there says, "I saw Timmy here last Tuesday." That could get a hooky player busted quickly.

5. Always have a back-up story. Have a story ready in case the parents uncover the deception. When visiting the nurse's office see if a nurse's sick form can be obtained. That way a sick note from the "nurse" can offer an excuse for not being at school. Say that the better part of the day was spent at the nurses' office and that was why the classes were not attended. Alternatively, say that the student got sent home and there was an administrative error at the school.

6. Call a friend to find out if anything of notice happened at the school. Parents talk to each other and say there was a big fight at the school. Well that is something you want to talk about at the dinner table. If a student is not up to date on big events that happened at school that day that will raise suspicion.
