The Pneumonocccal vaccine is given to children and adults to prevent certain bacteria that affect the blood. The meningitis bacteria is a particular risk to people with heart disease, lung disease , people with diabetes, those with spleen dysfunction, and people with an HIV infection. The vaccine has few side effects and is considered very safe. Follow these steps to identify side effects of this vaccine.

Step1
Watch for common side effects such as fever, soreness in the injection area, and swelling. The fever will be low grade fevers around 100 degrees. The swelling and soreness near the shot area should subside after a few days and is not a sign of a more serious infection.
Step2
Notice fussiness or drowsiness in infants who have received the Pneumococcal vaccine. Ask your doctor what to give the baby for the fussiness that will allow the child to get plenty of rest.
Step3
Look for more severe side effects such as tingling or numbness. Notify your doctor if your hands or feet become numb. This is not a normal side effect and your doctor should be contacted immediately.
Step4
Call your doctor if you experience bleeding, swollen glands, or easy bruising. Also contact your doctor if you have e an allergic reaction to the vaccination. An allergic reaction is rare but is evident by a rash, itching, dizziness, swelling in the area and difficulty breathing.
