Things You'll Need:
- Bait
- Fishing tackle
-
Step 1
Identify the rainbow trout as having a brownish, green body with a distinctive red band running the length of the fish's side. Many rainbow trout have brilliant color variations, giving them their name.
-
Step 2
Cast fish rainbow trout or fly fish for them. Use a 4- to 5-lb. test line to fish for river trout. Larger bodies of water produce larger fish; therefore, larger tackle may be required.
-
Step 3
Collect enough bait. Rainbow trout strike on almost any bait, but prefer live bait such as insects, worms or crawfish. Fish eggs are a common favorite of the rainbow trout. Minnows are another method that attracts trout.
-
Step 4
Cast bait into slower moving, grassy areas. Fly fish over sunken or fallen logs. Rainbow trout hover in these areas waiting for insects.
-
Step 5
Fish on cloudy, overcast days. Trout seem to respond to bright, sunny days by hiding in deeper waters and staying cool. Clouds offer a more hospitable climate.
