Food can make or break a celebration. If the food is appropriate and tastes great, then everyone is happy and has a good time. If the food is inappropriate no one eats and you may hear a lot of grumbling from the guests. Follow these steps to pick food for a celebration to ensure a festive time is had by all.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Think of the guests you're inviting when you pick the menu for the celebration. Young children will probably not enjoy your finest selection of cheese and adults wouldn't be satisfied with animal crackers. Pick food your guests will eat.
Step2
Pick food that will hold up well for a long celebration. Food such as crackers and nuts will hold up longer than melons and apples.
Step3
Look at the seating arrangements. If there is room for everyone to sit at the table then dinner style foods are appropriate. If your guests are required to stand, sit on the sofa or grab a chair then you should serve appetizers and hors d'oeurves.
Step4
Choose traditional foods. For weddings are delicate foods--meringue cakes. For birthday celebrations--cookies and festive cakes. Pick traditional foods based on religion, culture, seasonal abundance or holidays for your celebration.
Step5
Serve theme-related food. If your theme is Cinco de Mayo then serve chips and dip, mini tacos and quesadillas. If you're having a Chinese New Year celebration then be sure to serve Chinese food.
Step6
Consider where you are hosting the celebration. If you're hosting a children's celebration indoors then provide food that is easy to pick up. If you're having a celebration outdoors, then serve food that won't easily spoil when sitting out in the sun too long.
