If you don't want to use high speed Internet because of its high price, you can use the cheaper internet connection–dial up. Dial up uses your phone line and a modem to hook you to the Internet. Follow these steps to use dial-up service.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate
Step1
Make sure you have a dial up modem in your computer. You need a modem with a phone jack to run dial up.
Step2
Set your computer up in a room with a phone jack since your computer will be connected with a phone line.
Step3
Find a dial-up service provider. Try your local phone company or a service provider like AOL. You can call some service providers and they will help you set up your Internet over the phone.
Step4
Install your Internet software. This usually comes on a CD from the service provider.
Step5
Connect to the Internet by clicking the service provider icon. The icon is set up during installation and should be on your desktop.
Step6
Open your web browser or email program. You are now on the Internet. Follow the login instructions, which may include your email address and a password.
Step7
Read your email or send emails to other people. Close your web browser when you are finished by clicking the "X" at the top right of the screen.

Tips & Warnings

  • Dial-up service is very slow and it ties up your phone line.
