Step 1
Wear waders to fly fish the Yuba River. The water is shallow enough for you to wade all year round. It's also the ideal river to use a float.
-
Step 2
Hike the trails along the Yuba River to access good spots to fly fish. The fish are abundant in the hidden bends of the river.
-
Step 3
Use nymphs all day throughout the year. Dry flies will also work throughout the year but only during certain times of the day. Try to use those during the dry fly hatches.
-
Step 4
Hook a 20-inch fish or larger with a sink tip and a woolly bugger or minnow imitation.
-
Step 5
Fly fish with the switch rods such as the Sage 6110-4. You can cover the whole Yuba River with these style rods.
-
Step 6
Fish in late fall when the Chinook Salmon are running. This is a good time to catch large Rainbow Trout as they're feeding on the eggs. Drift salmon eggs during the salmon run to catch the trout.
-
Step 7
Contact a local fly shop to join a guided fly fishing trip to get the inside scoop. They can show you where all the good spots are to fly fish along the Yuba River.
